Haliba’s story

Haliba Shaikh lives in Khalwa with her father, mother and brother.

At the age of just 4 years old, she was left to roam the streets of the city as her father worked diligently to provide for the family collecting rubbish, and her mother as a house maid. One day, as she was playing with the little she had, she saw the big yellow bus come around the corner. Children ran towards it with plates and the hope of a brighter future.

Curious and hopeful, the very next day she and her friend decided they wanted to explore the wonders of the bus.

As soon as she stepped on to Vision Rescue bus, we saw how well she interacted in games, songs, and studies with the other children. Through the determination in both her parents, Haliba learnt at a young age the importance of hard work. She now comes to the bus regularly. One day, Haliba looked up to the teacher and said, “I want to be a teacher just like you”. She now dreams of empowering others who live on the streets by teaching songs. When you show someone they are of value, there is a ripple of change that takes place. Simply by the love, encouragement and respect the teachers have shown in their actions, Haliba knows she is of value. We believe that this young girl will become a great teacher.
